Message from Richard Miller, CEO

“I want to thank all our supporters for their continued commitment to Sentebale over the last year. I know it has been a challenging time for many with Covid-19 testing our resilience, health and ability to go about our daily lives.

Our teams in Lesotho and Botswana have continued to show strength and an unwavering commitment to ensure vulnerable children and young people receive vital health services, care and support. Sentebale makes a critical difference in the lives of these children and young people. They often face incredible uncertainty, isolation and hardships which has taken a toll on their health and wellbeing.

Over the last year Sentebale has helped children access life-saving medication – supporting them with transport from remote villages. We spend time listening to young people’s hopes and fears, guiding and motivating them when they feel isolated and despondent. We have provided practical skills training and support, so young people have a better chance of a more hopeful and successful future.

We’ve had to work differently, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly  because we can’t gather children and young people together. We have innovated and rethought our ways of working to ensure we achieve the highest possible impact.

As the Omicron variant fuels the rise in Covid-19 cases, especially in Southern Africa, we will continue to provide the best care possible so children and young people can feel empowered, healthy, resilient and are able to thrive.

Over the coming year we will build on all we have learnt in recent times. We will develop new programmes and ways of working that are sustainable and respond to the changed needs of children and young people.

Thank you again from all of us at Sentebale for your ongoing support and we wish you a very Happy Christmas and New Year.”
