Guests Special Sponsors Fabulous Night

For the third year in a row, Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake's Garden Preview Party brought volunteers, donors and supporters together for an evening of camaraderie and celebration of past partnerships and future expectations. We took this opportunity to show our appreciation for our star volunteers, welcoming them to walk the red carpet, have their picture snapped by the paparazzi and escorting them to the film-themed garden displays.

There were cheers for our Wood Shop Crew as they received an award, tears of joy for our Homeowner of the Year, Sharon Cheatom, and laughs as CEO Mike Posko pulled people onto the dance floor. Thank you to all of our guests and our very special sponsors for a fabulous night out!
The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation has awarded an extraordinary grant of $1 million to Habitat Chesapeake in support of our work together to revitalize three Baltimore City neighborhoods. The Foundation's generous support of our projects since 1999 has enabled us to offer affordable homeownership opportunities to hard-working, low-income families.
AmeriCorps AmeriCorps Week: March 9-17, 2013

Shanitas : Story Volunteer Engagement "While sitting in an interview for a position with the affiliate, it became clearer to me that this was more than a business, more than an office and more than partnership- this was a mission-based organization seeking to empower others through homeownership, sponsorship and volunteerism. And on January 7th, I started my first day as fellow co-laborer with Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake, termed as Volunteer Engagement Manager."

Want to become a Red Hat volunteer?
Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake is currently growing our base of Red Hat volunteers. Red Hats are a team of skilled and semi-skilled volunteers with construction experience, personality galore and leadership skills. They are capable of leading both small and large groups of volunteer teams to construct healthy, stable and energy-efficient homes for our partner families.
Ark and Dove Presbyterian Church Donation

Thank you to the congregation at Ark and Dove Presbyterian Church! Your dedication and perseverance to build in West County is an inspiration.

A check for $60,000 was presented to Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake in front of 1842 Robin Court, the home of Velma Dorsey and the next home to be rehabilitated in Anne Arundel County.

Anne Arundel Community College Softball Team The Anne Arundel Community College softball team joined their new coach--and highly regarded Habitat staff member--Renee Ferguson for a day of community service and teambuilding on February 16, when they volunteered on a build site for Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake.

Ferguson said she saw this as an opportunity for her new team to get to know one another off the field.
Donate your Car, truck, RV, Boat, Motorcycle Donate your car, truck, RV, boat or motorcycle to our Cars for Homes program. Your generous vehicle donation helps us provide more families in Central Maryland with safe, decent and affordable housing. Revenue from the vehicle sale goes directly back into our affiliate to help us build more homes.
Pasadena Re-store Last month, our Pasadena ReStore hosted the first Women Build How-To Clinic of the year. Members came to learn how to repair drywall from one of the best, the ToolBox TomGirl, Jo Ellen Soesbee. And these ladies mastered it! By the end of the clinic, they knew how to cut, measure and fully repair a hole in drywall.
Habitat for Humanity - Restore Volunteers Needed
Legislative House Habitat on the Hill is an annual two-day event organized by Habitat for Humanity International to provide opportunities for affiliates to advocate for issues important to the Habitat mission.

Our staff were very fortunate to meet with legislative aids for Senator Barbara Mikulski, Representative Elijah Cummings, and Representative John Sarbanes, who discussed with us the delivery of affordable housing in our local communities and the elimination of poverty housing around the world.

Thank you, Ann!
Harry Braxton

All of our donors are vital to our mission and we are grateful for their support. Last month, just before Valentines Day, partner families joined in expressing gratitude and gathered at the Habitat Chesapeake offices to call their Valentines -- donors who have made generous contributions throughout the past year.

Harry Braxton (pictured left) chatted with one donor who told him, "I'm grateful that I can help you achieve your dreams!" Partnering together, donors, volunteers and family members are changing lives and strengthening communities.
Family Services Department Building homes is certainly one way--probably the best known way--to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. We love our build volunteers, but our Family Services department also invites you to take a look at some of the other things you can do to help Habitat families become successful homeowners.
Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church
The season's coldest day didn't stop them. Ravens mania didn't stop them. The only thing that came close to stopping them was their own efficiency.

A group of 50 youth and adults gathered the Saturday before Super Bowl to build picnic tables that will be used on our work site locations and sold in the ReStores to help raise funds for Habitat's mission. The group quickly built 12 picnic tables, almost finishing the work meant for two shifts of volunteers.

Thank you, Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, for your continued commitment to Habitat, to the youth of your congregation, and to your creativity in helping eradicate poverty housing.
